      • descriptionO Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar em Direitos Humanos organiza, em colaboração com o Centro de Estudos em Direito da União Europeia e do Sindicato dos Magistrados do Ministério Público, um Congresso internacional de Direito Penal da União Europeia & Direitos Humanos, intitulado “Os novos desafios da cooperação judiciária e policial na União Europeia e da implementação da Procuradoria Europeia”, no próximo dia 18 de maio, na Escola de Direito da Universidade do Minho. Esta iniciativa tem como escopo trazer para a discussão as principais questões que se colocam hoje no âmbito da cooperação judiciária e policial, do reconhecimento mútuo, da harmonização e da tutela dos direitos humanos na União Europeia. Pretende-se, ainda, analisar os desafios em torno da implementação da Procuradoria Europeia. De uma forma especial, tecer-se-á um olhar crítico e prospetivo sobre a Proposta de Regulamento do Conselho que institui a Procuradoria Europeia em discussão, dando-se conta do atual estado das negociações, dos principais aspetos de direito penal substantivo e de direito processual penal; do estatuto e do desenho institucional da Procuradoria Europeia (questões de direito institucional) e das relações entre a Procuradoria Europeia, a Eurojust e o OLAF. A coordenação científica é da responsabilidade de Margarida Santos, Mário Ferreira Monte e Fernando Conde Monteiro.

      • descriptionThe Interdisciplinary Research Center for Human Rights, in collaboration with the Center for Studies in European Union Law and the Union of Magistrates of the Public Prosecutor's Office, organizes an International Criminal Law Congress of the European Union & Human Rights entitled "The new challenges of judicial and police cooperation in the European Union and the implementation of the European Public Prosecutor's Office ", on 18 May at the Law School of the University of Minho. The aim of this initiative is to bring to the discussion the main issues that lie today in judicial and police cooperation, mutual recognition, harmonization and the protection of human rights in the European Union. It also intends to analyze the challenges surrounding the implementation of the European Public Prosecutor's Office. In a special way, a critical and prospective look will be taken on the Proposal for a Council Regulation establishing the European Public Prosecutor's Office under discussion, taking into account the current state of negotiations, the main aspects of substantive and procedural criminal law; the Statutes and the institutional design of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (matters of institutional law) and the relations between the European Public Prosecutor's Office, Eurojust and OLAF. Scientific coordination is the responsibility of Margarida Santos, Mário Ferreira Monte and Fernando Conde Monteiro.

      • description<p style="text-align: justify;">Objective</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Financial institutions are a constant target for cybercriminals. The long-term impact of a cyber attack could be substantial loss of revenue, valuable data or other company assets. Litigation costs and reputational damage could also result in immediate material loss of shareholder value. Combined with other technology threats to banking channels, such as skimming and ATM malware, financial institutions face significant challenges to protect their clients. <br /> <br /> The purpose of this seminar is to describe for financial institutions the steps that can be taken proactively to detect and respond to financial cybercrime attacks.       • description<p style="text-align: justify;">Objective</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children, including child pornography and child prostitution, are particularly severe crimes which the development of the internet has further aggravated, generating new crimes such as “grooming”, i.e. soliciting children online for sexual purposes. <br /> <br /> This seminar aims to assess and debate legal measures to prevent and combat the production, processing, possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material on the internet and to promote the effective investigation and prosecution of offences in this area of law through cooperation with the internet industry.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Key topics</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">European and international legal instruments to fight child pornography online<br /> Internet blocking issues<br /> Role of law enforcement agencies<br /> Soliciting children on the internet for sexual purposes (‘grooming’)</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">About the project</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">This seminar is part of a large scale project sponsored by the European Commission and entitled “Investigating, prosecuting and adjudicating criminal cases in the online world: challenges (and opportunities) posed by the internet to EU legal practitioners”. It consists of five seminars to take place in Budapest, Madrid, Lisbon, Cracow and Trier.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Who should attend?</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Law enforcement officers, judges, prosecutors and lawyers in private practice.<br /> <br /> Please note that due to the large number of applications for this series on online investigations, participants can register only for 1 event (of their choice) out of the 5 outlined above.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Participation conditions<br /> Registration fee: €90 with no discounts</p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;">The number of places available for participants is limited. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis and according to nationalities.       • description<p style="text-align: justify;">IJ and ECLAN are proud to announce the ECLAN Symposium on the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and the international conference European Criminal Law in the Global Context: Values, Principles and Policies, which will take place the 29-31 March 2017 at Colégio da Trindade - University of Coimbra. On the whole, the events will bring together academics, practitioners and stakeholders of more than twenty nationalities.<br /> The ECLAN Symposium on the European Public Prosecutor’s Office is organised in close cooperation with the IJ Research Group Risk – Transparency – Litigation (RG 4), which endeavours to assess new forms of litigation and new kinds and roles of judicial actors. The Symposium is divided in three topics: (1) competence and its exercise, including ancillary competence; (2) investigative powers and admissibility of evidence; and (3) independence and accountability of the EPPO. It aims at producing a synthesis of ECLAN’s view on the current state of the legislative procedure leading to the establishment of the EPPO. Attendance is limited to ECLAN’s members and guests, as well as Master’s and PhD students (registration required).<br /> The Conference European Criminal Law in the Global Context: Values, Principles and Policies is promoted by the IJ Research Group Crisis, Sustainability and Citizenship(s) (RG 6), which intends to draw up a normative framework of reference for the various dimensions involved in the reform of the State, in the current context of shared or “late” sovereignty, with a view to anticipating the implications of such reform for traditional legal methodology.<br /> The purpose of the Conference is to address the interaction between European criminal law and international law and bodies, and the reciprocal influences they might bear on each other. As the title suggests, it will be structured in three sessions:</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">The values involved in the dichotomies citizenship / criminal law; privacy / crime prevention; and fundamental rights / punishment;</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">The principles underlying extraterritorial jurisdiction, ne bis in idem and mutual recognition;<br /> And the policies regarding anti-money laundering, terrorist financing and terrorism, restrictive measures and the criminalisation of migration.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Attendance to the conference is free upon <a href="http://ij.fd.uc.pt/eventos/ij/2017/events_mars2017_ficha.html">registration.</a></p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Both events are expected to produce deliverables, which will be published in digital and / or paper format by IJ and ECLAN.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">For further information, please contact Ms. Ana Rita Nunes at geral@ij.uc.pt or Ms. Céline Cocq at eclanconference2017@gmail.com.</p>
